Signify donates UV-C disinfection solutions to Dyslexia Association of Singapore to promote greater health and well-being in post-pandemic learning
Donation is part of Signify’s aim to bring the benefits of UV-C light beyond hospitals
Singapore – Signify (Euronext: LIGHT), the world leader in lighting, today announced its donation of UV-C disinfection solutions to the Dyslexia Association of Singapore (DAS) to enhance the health and well-being of DAS students and staff. Signify has donated a total of eight Philips UV-C air disinfection units that have been installed at DAS learning centres located across Singapore.
Through this corporate social responsibility endeavour, Signify aims to create an extra layer of protection in learning environments for students with dyslexia at a time where COVID-19 waves are still emerging periodically along with rising cases of influenza in Singapore. Since the start of the pandemic, DAS has been seeking technological solutions to keep its classrooms as safe and virus-free as possible and welcomed Signify’s UV-C disinfection approach.
Signify has been at the forefront of UV technology for more than 35 years and has a proven track record of developing innovative UV-C products and applications. Its UV-C solutions have been used in professional settings as well as public settings including schools, gyms, supermarkets and public restrooms around the world.
Designed to disinfect the air in closed spaces, these air disinfection units are capable of reducing airborne transmission of pathogens by more than 99% within 30 minutes1 . Used extensively by scientists for over 40 years, UV-C is a known disinfectant for air, water and surfaces.
The Philips UV-C air disinfection unit is designed with an extra supportive metal structure inside the disinfection chamber for additional resistance. Its aesthetic design delivers well-controlled UV-C radiation and it can be used when people are present, while its user-friendly interface with one-button control makes usage easy. It is ozone-free and easy to maintain.

The DAS learning centres that are benefitting from the UV-C installations are: REX House Learning Centre, Jurong Point Learning Centre, Chua Chu Kang Learning Centre, Tampines Learning Centre, Parkway Parade Learning Centre, Bedok Learning Centre, Woodlands Learning Centre and Bishan Learning Centre. A vibrant social service agency that provides interventional support and assessment for children with dyslexia and other specific learning differences from preschools to tertiary institutions, DAS operates 12 learning centres across Singapore.
“Signify is glad to have this opportunity to contribute to DAS, using our expertise and knowledge of lighting to give back to the communities in which we operate and create positive impact on society. As poor air quality is a major cause of illnesses and children are particularly vulnerable to its effects, Signify hopes that our UV-C disinfection solutions will make small but important differences to the learning journey of DAS students,” said Mr Jitender Khurana, Country Head and Managing Director, Signify Singapore.
“DAS is grateful to Signify for this donation as the well-being of our students and staff is of prime importance to us. We have been exploring various ways to improve the air quality of our classrooms and we look forward to these air disinfection units to help us do so. They are easy to install and use and we hope that they will also give our staff and parents more assurance,” said Mr Lee Siang, CEO of DAS.
